Beach in Mali Rat
The once separate village on the riviera between Split and Omiš, Mali Rat has almost completely merged with the nearby settlements. Its neighbors are Sumpetar on the western side (towards Jesenice) and Orij on the eastern side (towards Dugi Rat. The word `rat` in the name of the place refers to a cape and the word `mali` means short - not like the longer cape of Dugi Rat.

Mali Rat doesn't have arranged, man-made beaches, its original, natural beaches are gravel mixed with sand. One small disadvantage of the beaches here is that they are located right next to the main road on Croatia's Adriatic coast (the Magistral) and the beaches are only a couple of meters wide. Compared to other beaches in the area, Mali Rat is not overcrowded.

Accommodation in Mali Rat is available either in private apartment buildings or in the mini campsite in Orij. The restaurants and shops for daily food and drinks are situated along the Magistral road. Bigger shopping needs are served in Dugi Rat, Omiš or Split.
